A discussion with USF students about why they’re protesting

Student demonstrations have gripped campuses across the U.S. and even around the world. That includes right here in Tampa. Our guests on Tuesday Cafe oppose the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and the financial connections of USF. Saba Indawala and Victoria Hinckley from Tampa Bay Students for a Democratic Society have been demonstrating at the University of South Florida.

Hinckley was a guest on WMNF’s True Talk last week and we learned that she was suspended just before graduation because of the demonstrations.

What we know about the ‘outside agitators’ being blamed for campus protests

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, several college and university administrators across the country, and some law enforcement members have blamed "outside agitators" for the disruption in now weekslong pro-Palestinian protests on campuses across the country.

But the outside agitator narrative is a tried and tested police tactic, [Justin]Hansford [executive director of the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Center at Howard Law School] said. "You have to make their protesters bad before you can expect the public to accept a really violent action against them," said Hansford.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s office says the proposal agreed by Hamas is far from Israel’s demands but the Israeli government will send a delegation to negotiate. It also says war cabinet decided that Israel will continue its operation on Rafah, with the army announcing striking targets in the east of the city.
