New Hybrid PAC looks to help naturalized citizens, Muslim candidates run for federal office


A newly formed progressive hybrid Political Action Committee (PAC) is looking to support Muslim candidates and naturalized citizens who want to run for federal office.

The group, dubbed “Cavalry PAC,” was filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) last Monday.

At the western gateway of the Ybor City Historic District, the rooftop terrace of Casa Gomez has a view of Ybor City’s cultural heritage and its future.

Air Pollution Precaution issued in Hillsborough County due to Ozone levels


An Air Pollution Precaution was issued Monday in Hillsborough County due to elevated Ozone levels, according to the Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County.

The precaution is in effect immediately and will remain in effect until Wednesday, according to the notice.

The air quality could create problems for children, elderly people, and anyone with lung diseases or asthma, according to the release. Those in sensitive groups are asked to consider limiting activities outdoors.


Most coral reef areas experienced bleaching in past year


Coral reefs around the globe experienced a mass bleaching event in the past year as the ocean continues to heat, according to new research.

The impacted reefs include those in Florida, the Caribbean, parts of the Eastern Tropical Pacific like Costa Rica and Panama, Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, parts of the South Pacific, the Persian Gulf, and the Gulf of Aden, researchers said.

The Biden administration will require thousands more gun dealers to run background checks on buyers


Thousands more firearms dealers across the United States will have to run background checks on buyers at gun shows or other places outside brick-and-mortar stores, according to a Biden administration rule that will soon go into effect.

The rule aims to close a loophole that has allowed tens of thousands of guns to be sold every year by unlicensed dealers who do not perform background checks to ensure the potential buyer is not legally prohibited from having a firearm. Gun rights groups are expected to fight it in court.
